How to improve your eyesight today?

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Take your Bibles this morning to the Book of Psalms. Chapter 119. It’s right in the middle of your Bible. It’s the biggest chapter of the Bible, and it’s all about the Bible. And I want to talk to you this morning about your vision. As to whether you have 2020 vision or not. Psalms chapter 119. We’re going to be in verses 33 through 40. And take a look at this here this morning talking about your spiritual vision. Is it 2020? Let’s just look here in verse number 33.

Psalm 119:33–40

33 Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end.

34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.

35 Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.

36 Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness.

37 Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.

38 Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear.

39 Turn away my reproach which I fear: for thy judgments are good.

40 Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness.

And I want to talk to you this morning like I said, about your vision. Verse number 37 there said, turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity.

How is your Spriritual eysight today?

Now it’s been said, and maybe it’s only been said in my family, I don’t know. But it’s been said that hindsight is 2020. So it’s a lot easier when you’re looking back at a thing, and then you see things more clearly and you see, well, I should have done something differently, perhaps, maybe, or something, I don’t know. But hindsight is 2020.

So the question is how is your spiritual eyesight today? Is everything in focus or is it blurry today? Right. Now, I got these new glasses some time back, and I don’t know what it is about these particular glasses. I’ve worn glasses since I was in the third grade. I think second, third grade, I don’t know, since I’ve been really little. And these, particular glasses, for some reason, I can’t keep them clean. I cannot keep them clean. I know not to touch my glasses. , I promise I’m not putting my fingers on my glasses. I think they’re too close to my face and my eyeballs, like, get eyeball juice on my lenses or something. I don’t know what it is. I don’t know what it is, but I can’t ever keep these glasses clean. It’s a struggle. But you know what? Keeping your spiritual eyesight clean is a struggle. There’s things all over the place always trying to grab your attention and grab your focus. And that’s what the psalmist is talking about here.

Keeping your spiritual eyesight clean is a struggle

He’s asking the Lord to help him turn away my eyes from beholding iniquity. And there are a lot of things all over the place that are always competing for your attention. And most of those things have little value, little spiritual value. And most of those things are trying to pull you away from God.

And, you know, people have all different types of vision problems or what have you. I happen to be near-sighted or people that are far-sighted, what have you. But it’s not good to be too near-sighted because if you’re too near-sighted, then all you can focus on is what is happening immediately right this moment, right this second.

And it always seems like it’s the end of the world, right this moment and right this second. Right. But sometimes you could be far-sighted and you’re not seeing the day-to-day blessings and the things that God is doing for you.

The Word of God is that balance

So it would be best if you had a good balance with your eyesight. The Word of God is that balance and will bring us closer to God. So the encouraging word today is just simply to turn away from all those worthless things. Don’t be concentrating on those things.

Spend more time in the Word of God. Focus your eyes on Jesus and on His Word. And then he will be able to restore your spiritual vision back to where it ought to be, which is 2020.
