Why Friendships are so Important
He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. – Proverbs 13:20
I thank the Lord for the friends that I have and how he has brought them into my life. The friends that we choose are extremely important to our spiritual growth and life.
The friends that we choose will either make us or break us. This Bible study will show you how your choice in friends will mold your choices in life.
By looking at the friendship that Amnon had with Jonadab, we will see how important our friends really are to our spiritual development and how they can impact every aspect of our lives including our relationship with the Lord.
Read: 2 Samuel 13:1-19
Amnon had a problem, and his problem only got worse after he involved his friend, because his friend was a very subtle man.
Amnon knew that his desires were wrong, and found it hard to go after those desires, but he had a friend, and that friend gave him the green light to go against everything that he knew to be right.
Who is your friend?
Are your friends’ people who encourage you in your faith?
- Do they encourage you to read your Bible?
- Do they encourage you to Pray?
- Do they encourage you to attend Church services?
Or are they pulling you away from these things?
A True Friend
- A true friend rebukes you when you need to be rebuked (Proverbs 28:23)
- A true friend may hurt you for your own good (Proverbs 25:11-12)
- A true friend can be of great help (Proverbs 27:9,17)
Amnon was looking for joy
Amnon was looking for joy in all the wrong places.
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
1 John 1:1-4
That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
He made the wrong friends
Don’t follow in his steps, Choose Jesus and his crowd to be your friends.
And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
James 2:23
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
John 15:13-15
Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
What kind of friend are you?
Are you a friend like Jonadab?
or
Are you a good friend?
Does spending time with you, make your friends want to be better Christians?
If not! Why not get that fixed today? (1 John 1:9)
