You have been called to tell

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Today, we are going to be in two different chapters of Psalms, but we’re only going to read a grand total of three verses. Psalm, chapter 89, verse one. Then we’ll be over in chapter 59, verses 16 and 17. And the encouraging word today is to remind you that you’ve been called to tell.

Don’t tell

Now we’re told our entire lives. Don’t tell, don’t tell stories. Don’t, tell on anybody or anything like that. And I believe that wholeheartedly. Snitches get stitches, man. But that’s not what I’m talking about today. I’m not talking about a bad thing here. The problem is, people take things like that and then they try to apply it across every aspect of their life. And it doesn’t work.

It doesn’t work that way because as a Christian, if you put your faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ this morning, and then you are called to tell some folks some things, and that’s what I want to look at here in the Book of Psalms:

Psalm 89:1
1 I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.

So just in case you maybe were thinking, well, we’re all supposed to have a song in our hearts and that’s it, no that is not what the Bible says, it said with your mouth out loud. We’re supposed to sing of the mercies of the Lord forever. Every day now turn over to Psalm chapter 59 in verses 16 and 17,

Psalm 59:16–17
16 But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble.
17 Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy.

I will sing aloud

I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning aloud once again just so you get it. This isn’t something that you just do for yourself. Make yourself feel good and make yourself feel better. You sing in the shower. You know, we’re all we’re all, opera singers in the shower, I mean, I’m not. But maybe you are. But, yeah, it says I will sing of thy power. I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning.

And we’re supposed to sing aloud and tell people about what the Lord has done. And when we sing of His power and of his mercy, because He has been our defense and our refuge, there’s a reason for it.

We have hymnals that have 500 or so songs in them and all of these songs are all love songs to Jesus. Why? Because of what he’s done for us.

  • The Psalms are prayers.
  • The Psalms are praise songs
  • The Psalms are proof of what God has already done,

Testimony

The Psalms are a testimony of the works of God. That’s what you find in the Psalms. And testimony is normally a word that’s reserved. As Christians, we reserve that word for times when people are given their salvation experience. The day that they got saved, you know what the Lord saved them from or how it is that they came to the knowledge that they needed a savior in the first place. And how that transpired. And we call that our testimony. But God’s work in your life wasn’t finished on the day that you got saved. He is still working in your lives every day. He daily loadeth us with benefits. It says in Psalms chapter 116. And when we recognize what he has done for us, then we can be storytellers of his faithfulness, like the Psalmist were. We’re supposed to be storytellers. We’re told all of our lives, don’t be a storyteller.

But some stories are good to tell.

Storytellers of his faithfulness

We’re supposed to tell those stories. We’ll get strength for the challenges ahead when we remember what he’s done for us in the past. We walk by faith, not by sight, because we already know what he has already done and we have a reasonable expectation that he is going to continue to do so because he promised that he would. And he’s never broken any other promise with us, ever. So there would be no reason to think that he would break this one either.

Our ongoing testimonies are a display of his faithfulness. So when you feel troubled in this life and you will Right, you will. You’re welcome. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news and to bring you back to reality for just a moment. But you’re going to go through trouble in this life. Jesus said so. He said, In this world, you’re going to have trouble, but don’t fear. He said that he’s overcome the world right.

So when you feel troubled, when you’re going through those times of doubt and everything else that you go through in this life, tell yourself the stories of his faithfulness and remember. We’re supposed to cast our cares upon him because he cares for us and he still cares for you regardless of everything else.

Whatever the trouble might be, whether you deserve it, whether you don’t deserve it, whether you have it coming in your mind, or whether you don’t. It’s really immaterial because he still cares for you through it anyhow.

So you’re called to tell. Tell yourself. Remind yourself and tell others. That’s what we’re called to do.

Our hope at Irvington Bible Baptist Church is that this podcast provided some encouragement and has helped you to develop a closer relationship with the LORD Jesus Christ.
